In the summer of 1999, I met Bonnie Curtis at a campsite in the midwest as our paths crossed while cycling across America. I set out on my ride to heal. She set out to make a plan with God, and boy did she have stories! For two weeks we cycled together beside endless fields of tall green grass until they were browned by the high Colorado desert.
Bonnie shared tales of people connecting with something bigger than themselves. The great unknown. Journeys about purpose, whether beyond or within us. Before the age of cell phones, we lost each other in the Rocky Mountains. On our last day together she told me that our lives, with all their bumps and blessings, is one long road. The site’s name is in honor of her wisdom.
In 2007, after teaching middle and high school in Vermont and Washington, DC, I founded and still direct the nonprofit, One World Education. The organization leads programs inside classrooms and after school that connect social justice with research and writing skills. Its impact on more than 50,000 inner-city students inspired me to share my writing.
I launched this website in 2024 to share my short stories and debut novel, TAUGHT. My stories and TAUGHT are about our journey, and how we stumble and shine along the way. Thank you for reading and for your inspiration.
